Mark VonderHaar has been reading, writing, and litigating insurance policy provision for over 30 years. His experience with insurance-related legal issues includes analysis of insurance coverage issues, providing opinion letters, drafting of underwriting and policy forms, representation of loss portfolio transfer companies, and representation of policy holders and judgment creditors in bad faith actions.

In 2017, Mr. VonderHaar founded his own firm to focus his representation of policy holders, insurance captive programs, and assisting clients with financial reinsurance transfers. Mark spends most of his workday reading insurance policies and providing recommendations that minimize risk to his clients or maximize recovery from insurers.

Mark is an active member of the American Bar Association Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, and is a Faculty Member of the CLM Claims College-School of Mediation. He is a graduate of the Litigation Management Institute, certified by Harvard Law School PIL Mediation Program, and he attended Pepperdine Law Alternative Dispute Resolution Program. Mark’s community service includes serving various non-profit board of directors, including former board member / president of Mama’s Kitchen, a Home Delivered Meals Service.

In addition to his Martindale Hubbell rating of AV Preeminent©, and his designation as a Super Lawyer©, Mark is acknowledged as one of the top coverage lawyers in San Diego. Mark received his law degree from the University of Minnesota, where he also distinguished himself as a student-athlete and Williams Scholar.

Mark enjoys his family, snowmobiling, ice fishing, Gopher Football games, and long walks with his dog Olie.
